Matino is Joseph Matino's personal engineering, article, portfolio, and documentation website. This policy explains what information is handled when you visit or interact with matino.io, why it is used, and the choices available to you.
It is written as a global baseline; specific rights and legal bases depend on the law that applies where you live.
1. Who operates this website
Joseph Matino operates Matino from Kenya and decides how personal information submitted directly to this website is used. Privacy or data requests can be sent through the contact page.
The website handles only the information needed to publish content, protect the service, respond to visitors, and understand site use when permission is given. Depending on how you use the site, this can include:
- Technical and security data: IP address, browser and device information, requested URL, referring page, timestamps, and server or firewall events.
- Information you submit: name, email address, message content, comments, account details, or other information entered into a form.
- Reader activity: local preferences, consent choices, reactions, bookmarks, follows, and similar features you choose to use.
- Analytics data: page URL, general device and language information, referrer, interaction events, and a browser identifier, but only after Analytics consent.
- Advertising data: identifiers and page or ad interaction information processed by Google advertising services, but only after Advertising consent.
- To deliver pages, remember requested settings, and provide reader features.
- To prevent abuse, investigate errors, maintain backups, and secure the website.
- To answer messages and manage content you submit.
- To measure and improve articles and navigation after Analytics consent.
- To display and measure advertising after Advertising consent.
- To comply with legal duties and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
Where applicable, processing is based on your consent, performance of a service you requested, legal obligations, or the legitimate interests of running and securing a small publishing website. You can withdraw optional consent at any time without affecting processing that occurred before withdrawal.
4. Cookies and local storage
Matino uses essential storage for security and saved privacy choices. Preferences, Analytics, and Advertising storage stay off until allowed. The Cookie Policy lists the current categories, examples, and controls.
5. Services and recipients
Information may be processed by hosting, security, backup, mail, and technical service providers only as needed to operate the website. Matino currently uses Google Analytics and Google advertising services only after the corresponding consent. Those services can receive the page URL, IP address, and device or browser information.
Matino does not sell contact details for money. Some privacy laws may define consented advertising disclosures as a "sale" or "sharing." Rejecting or later withdrawing Advertising consent is Matino's direct opt-out control.
Published YouTube players remain blocked until Advertising consent. When allowed, Matino uses YouTube's privacy-enhanced embed domain, but the visitor's browser still connects to Google to load the player.
When a browser sends Global Privacy Control, Matino keeps Advertising off as an opt-out of sale or sharing. Matino also treats the legacy Do Not Track signal as a request to keep Analytics and Advertising off.
6. International processing
Matino is operated from Kenya, its server and service providers may be located in other countries, and Google may process information internationally. When a transfer rule applies, Matino relies on consent, contractual safeguards, adequacy mechanisms, or another lawful transfer basis available to the relevant provider.
7. Retention
Information is kept only for as long as needed for the purpose described above. Security logs and backups follow operational retention cycles; correspondence is kept while it remains useful or legally necessary; public comments may remain with the related article; and privacy choices normally remain for up to 365 days unless you change or clear them sooner. Third-party services apply their own documented retention settings and legal duties.
8. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live and which law applies, you may have rights to be informed, access personal information, correct it, request deletion, restrict or object to processing, receive portable data, withdraw consent, and complain to a privacy regulator. Kenya's data protection rights include being informed, access, objection, correction, and deletion. EU and UK rights can additionally include restriction and portability. California residents may have rights to know, delete, correct, opt out of sale or sharing, limit certain sensitive-data uses, and receive equal service.
Use the contact page to make a request. Matino may need enough information to verify that the request concerns you. Valid requests will be handled without discrimination, subject to legal exceptions such as security, freedom of expression, recordkeeping duties, or legal claims.
9. Children
Matino is a general-audience technology website and is not directed to children. Do not submit a child's personal information without the authority required by applicable law. If such information was submitted unintentionally, contact Joseph so it can be reviewed and removed where required.
10. Security
Matino uses access controls, private administration paths, transport encryption on the public site, updates and source review, backups, request filtering, and monitoring intended to reduce unauthorized access. No internet service can promise absolute security.
This policy will be revised when the site's real processing changes. The date at the top identifies the current version. Questions, requests, or complaints can be sent through the contact page. You may also contact the privacy regulator that applies where you live.
